a perfect spring afternoon
Friday, April 26, 2013
Phew. I am so excited to finally be able to share this session! I have been in a whirlwind for the past few weeks as I finish up the semester at school, and I couldn't wait to sort through these images. It was one of those sessions that I just knew was going to be good. It was the perfect warm, slightly sunny yet overcast afternoon.
As a wannabe/aspiring photographer I find it super hard to be able to find my personal style of photography. Sure, I can admire other photographer's styles but the truth is I will never be them. Even if I shoot with the same camera or lenses or even in the same location, I will always be me. Lately I've been coming to grips with this reality and focusing being happy with who I am and where I am at this very moment in time. To be honest, I usually over plan for photo shoots by looking at Pinterest for inspiration or stalking Facebook for ideas. More often than not I find that the more I plan, the more I hate the work I produce. I create impossible standards for myself instead of embracing the artist within me.
For this session, I just winged it. I grabbed my camera and a sweatshirt, and took one last look at myself before heading out the door. I took a deep breath and was on my way to a small field on the side of a parking lot. I didn't pack any props or extra gear. I just let it be.
I am seriously so proud of how these images came out. Maybe it's not your style, but it's mine. And for once in my whole life - I'm perfectly ok with that.

How sweet are these two?! Originally, I met Vince and Sofia at Southford Falls for our mini session. Naturally, it was way too cold and we couldn't get any smiles out of them! They came over to my little "studio" this weekend for a much warmer photo shoot. Here are a few of the many amazing photos I was able to capture!

Sisters. A phenomenon that I will never ever fully
comprehend. If you’re not privileged enough to have one- hopefully this blog
post will be somewhat amusing while still making you fully aware of what you’re
missing out on.
I come home tonight, hang up my coat and sit on the couch
just about to kick my feet up, when all of a sudden I hear a creaking noise
coming from my room. Immediately I knew it was my almost 16-year-old sister,
probably rummaging through my closet, my make-up or just taking iPhone selfies
in my mirror. I bolt up the stairs swing open my door and sure enough there she
is, digging through my clothes. “Do you have a pencil skirt I can wear?”
Yes, I have a pencil skirt, but can she wear it? No.
Definitely not. Not a chance. Starring at her in anger I notice that she’s
wearing the EXACT same hot pink lipstick that I had bought a few days ago. She
had bought her own. So, if she’s not stealing my stuff, she’s buying herself
the exact same things.
The weirdest thing is, no matter how much I hate what she
does, it never ever changes how much I love her or how much I miss her when
she’s not around. She is the most strong willed, captivating, and beautiful
person I know. Although I would STRONGLY prefer if she never touched any of my
stuff, she is perfect in my eyes and I love everything about her. As we prepare
for her Sweet 16, I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Even now as I
type this I can hear her strumming her guitar and singing Taylor Swift. It
seems like it was just yesterday we were playing doll house. Sure, I’d have all
my stuff to myself, but I just can’t imagine my life without her.
a sneak peek | valentine's mini sessions!

As Saturday morning rolled around, I checked my weather app one more time. Yep, it was still going to be 20 degrees. Photographing kids is always a challenge, but I had a feeling this would be a little bit harder than usual. The thing is, I was totally up for it! To top it off, my amazing friend Rachel agreed to be my assistant for the day. I met her at Southford Falls in Southbury, CT with some Dunkin' Donuts and we got ready for 3 back to back mini sessions. I was super excited because they were all brand new clients! I had so much fun chasing these little angels around in the blistering cold and I'm pretty happy with the images I managed to capture.

My last mini session clients of the weekend opted for a much warmer location - my little in home "studio"! ;)
