practice makes perfect

Thursday, May 31, 2012

I love getting to take pictures of people that are in love. I'm obsessed with love. It's something that is constantly on my mind because it is such an unexplainable emotion and it can be shown in so many different ways. So, when I found out that Julie and Alicia were engaged, I knew I had to take photos!! I had so much fun with these two ladies. They even took me and my boyfriend Julian out to dinner to say thank you. (Sushi at Koo!! Delish) I really wanted to share these photos - they aren't my best, I'll admit. It was supposed to be sunny out and I kind of panicked when it wasn't! Practice makes perfect. I was debating whether or not to post these on here, but then I realized that I want you guys to be with me every step of the way. Good shoots, bad shoots, everything. This isn't your average photography blog. I was SO fortunate to meet and become friends with an amazing photographer who lives right down the road from me. She actually came along with me on this photo shoot. She has taught me so much already and has been really open to helping me learn the art of photography. PLUS she has an awesome son and husband who are just as sweet. I'm seriously so happy I met them! Show Jena some love @ http://www.jalviti.com/. Anyways, if you can overlook the minor yet obvious technical flaws and just enjoy this crazy adorable couple I would be super happy! Wow, I really used a lot of adjectives in this post. Oh well.

train tracks & an abandoned factory

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

So what if I make my friends come hiking with me through random train tracks and old abandoned factories? I think they actually like it. This is one of my favorite shoots from a while back. One of the very few oldies that will actually make it on my blog. Thanks to Destiny and Dan for being models for me. I love these images! Is it corny to say that they're super special to me?! Oh well, cuz they are!

dear mom,

My mother is really and truly the most important woman in my life. She is my best friend in the whole world and I treasure her more than anything. Because of my mom, I know that there is a God who has a perfect plan for my life. He placed me in the arms of such an inspiring and strong woman who completes me. Watching my mother’s garden grow each year is something that also holds a special place in my heart. Seeing each flower bloom in its flawless glory – standing tall in the sunlight and eventually falling into the dirt helps to teach the exact lesson that my mother works so hard to show my sister and I. “This too shall pass” There is a season for everything. The good times, the bad times, the chaos, the tears, the anxiety, the joy – it all ends. No matter what it is, it won’t last forever. The important thing is to have people who are there with you through it all. Friends come and go, but family is forever. There are certain things in life that you just can’t take back & time is one of them. Just because it’s raining, doesn’t mean that there isn’t beauty and perfection all around you. Just take a minute to look a little bit closer.

Mommy, I love you from the bottom of my heart.

Becky and I met while hard at work at Chuck E. Cheese’s. I don’t even know how, really. Maybe I was stamping kids sweaty gross hands at kid check and she was dealing with the lovely parents at merch. “What do you mean my kid can’t have the toy that’s in the case? You can’t just open it??” I can’t totally regret working there though, because I met so many awesome people, including Becky. Anyways - I attempted to take newborn photos of her adorable little man, Nicholas, back when he was only 10 days old! (I strongly emphasize the work attempted) When I realized how crappy the photos came out I promised her another session when he was a little bit bigger and we finally got around to it last weekend!

I had no idea that when I promised her this shoot I would have learned so much about photography in the meantime. Like how to expose manually, HELLO?! This is so embarrassing, but I feel like I should confess that I didn’t even know what that meant last year. I would just throw my camera into auto and wonder why my photos never looked the way I wanted them to.  I’m still in the never-ending process of learning, don’t get me wrong, but I have really come so far!

Ok – I’m done. Here’s Nicholas!! Can I just express how much I love summertime and the color GREEN!

arielle salon

So I just finished up the semester on Wednesday with my last final and I didn't even get a chance to recuperate before I was snapping away with a super busy photography weekend. Thursday was head shots with Miss Connecticut, Friday Arielle Salon's grand re-opening party & Sunday was a family shoot with baby Nicholas followed by a 2nd birthday party in Stratford. Needless to say, I'm swamped with editing, sorting and delivering! But it's a really good, gratifying kind of busy. Like when you don't even have the time to think about the pointless crap that normally floods your mind? I am celebrating this busyness by laying on the couch all day, drinking cappuccinos with almond milk & catching up on all my work.

Ok- back to the salon party. I had SO much fun celebrating the grand re-opening of Arielle Salon in Brewster, New York. It really looks absolutely beautiful. Congratulations to Robin and the girls! I know who I'll be calling next time I need a hair cut! It is such a great feeling when you get to be a part of something important.
